Yes, backflow preventers are required on all irrigation systems in Connecticut connected to municipal water supply. Certain irrigation systems do not require a backflow device however, we recommend backflow preventer installation on any system that is connected to drinking (potable) water.

Yes, while pressure and water flow are typically higher on municipal water supplies, we can properly design and install your irrigation around these water restrictions. It is often a good idea to add filtration when using a well to avoid unwanted debris entering the system.

In most cases, your system won’t need to be completely redone. We will do our best to get your system up and running by retrofitting the current set up and upgrading some of the major components like the automatic controller and backflow preventer.

An irrigation system will always water better than you can do by hand. The use of a controller helps ensure the proper amount of water is applied to the different areas of your lawn. A properly designed irrigation system will water each area appropriately and provide an “even water distribution” just like the rain. Your plants and grass will also look healthier since they are receiving the right amount of water at the right time.

Yes, we offer rain sensor installation with most of our irrigation systems. Additionally, Connecticut state law requires that all state, residential, and commercial systems have a properly working rain sensor installed.

CT Gen Stat § 29-265b (2019) Subsection C

(c) Any automatic lawn sprinkler system installed on residential property on or after July 1, 2010, shall be equipped with a rain sensor device or switch that will automatically override the irrigation cycle of such sprinkler system when adequate rainfall has occurred.

All our work is backed by a manufacturer's warranty against defects in material and workmanship.  These warranties can vary depending on the scope of the work, ask a Dobson representative about warranties at the time you receive an estimate for any of work.

The typical maintenance schedule for most residential and commercial properties:

• Spring opening/activation: We turn the system on, adjust heads, configure your automatic timer and make note of any repairs needed
• Summer check: We perform a system audit to confirm system is working properly at the hottest times of the season and make adjustments accordingly
• Backflow preventer certification/test: We perform the state and water company required backflow test to ensure your backflow preventer is working properly and recommend repairs if needed
• Winterizations/blow out: We turn off the water, drain the backflow preventer, and blow out the majority of water in the pipes and heads. Keeping it off until weather allows in the spring.

The initial install is the bulk of the cost when it comes to landscape lighting. A low voltage lighting system won't have a high impact on your energy bill. We install LED bulbs that use about 15-20% less electricity than halogen or incandescent bulbs. The result is far lower energy bills.
